I am definitely a girl who LOVES poetry. And color. And this book is a wonderful combination of the two. Going through each season with absolutely gorgeous, whimsical illustrations, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter are all lovingly explored and meditated upon through each and every poem. The selections are just right, I thought, and in my mind seem chosen specifically to capture the magic of poetry to communicate in words--even just a few--the feelings the natural world create in us as a whole and as individuals. Each time I read this to my girls, I am transported myself to my childhood and the way everything in the world seemed so new, year after year, season after season--the wetness of a raindrop, the way the colors of a sunset smudged the sky, the wonder of fireflies and the movements of birds and cats and flowers in a breeze. If you are a lover of poetry and want to give that gift to your kids, get this book. It is magnificent.
