With Orion stuck under his mother's control, Rosalind will do anything to get him back. While their relationship was supposed to be a farce, the heart wants what it wants and Rosalind wants her Orion back. So, she sticks her neck out and paints herself as a target, to get his mother's attention. But how is she supposed to break him from her control. She's experimenting and creating soldiers who are stronger than the average human and she isn't above using her sons either. Thankfully, Rosalind has the help of Alisia, Oliver, Celia, Phoebe and Silas. Each has their own strengths they bring to the table and if they work together, saving Orion will be easy. But what happens when the tables are turned?
When a blast from the past makes a reappearance in Rosalind's life, emotions that she thought were locked away threaten to overwhelm her. In a swirl of secrets and betrayal, it's going to take the help of everyone to put an end to Orion's mother. There are a lot of bumps in the road and each person has their own thing going on which only thickens the plot. Silas will do anything to catch Priest, which we learn is Phoebe, and she will do everything to keep the secret from him. Oliver and Celia struggles to accept their feelings for each other, especially with Oliver wanting to protect her over himself. And Rosalind and Orion struggle to break away from his mother and their feelings for one another will be tested and strained. Even though they all play their own part in the war between the Nationalists and the Communists, they realize the importance of family and bonds you form with one another. Not even a war can break them.
In this one, we get to see a sweeter side to the jagged edges that is Orion and Rosalind's relationship. I love watching Rosalind soften from this block of ice to a puddle. Betraying her cousin so many years ago still hangs over her shoulder and she's faced to reconcile this guilt that's eating her up. I enjoyed all of the relationships in this book for different reasons. Oliver and Celia have a sweet and supportive one. Rosalind and Orion have that friction with their constant push and pull. Phoebe and Silas's is wrapped in mystery and neither will admit their feelings. However, when lives are on the line, it can change your perspective on what's important and what isn't.
Final Verdict: FOUL HEART HUNTSMAN brings readers a satisfying ending to Chloe Gong's series. It's perfect for fans of fantasy, romance, and action. She creates characters that we fall in love with and can't get enough of. I look forward to reading more of her works and this one left me completely satisfied even though I'm sad it's over, at least I think it is. If not I'm totally okay with more!
