Amber Tamblyn is best known as Joan from Joan of Arcadia and as Tibby from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Some may dismiss her as another typical young actress, but those who do clearly do not know what they are talking about! While so many young stars have succumbed to the high strung Hollywood lifestyle, Amber Tamblyn has emerged as a grounded, intelligent young woman. I was a little surprised to see how seriously she takes her writing. Many stars write a book as just another way to make money, but with Amber it is clear that she writes from within and that all of her poems have a place in her heart.

Free Stallion is a collection of poems that Amber has written throughout the years on a wide range of topics. Some of her poems express her feelings for contemporary society and issues that are important to her. Other poems are a raw look at her experiences with love and important people in her life. Her poetry shows such a wide range of emotion and I could personally relate to many of her poems. She writes free verse poems, several that are a few pages long, others that are less than a page. A couple of my personal favorites are Paper Tiger, in which she expresses her contempt to how society is treating the environment, and Pipedreams, which shows how Amber feels as a woman in Hollywood. I particularly liked Pipedreams, because I feel the same way, hating the body image standards that are forced upon young women today.

If anyone enjoys reading literary magazine, enjoys poetry, or is a fan of Amber Tamblyn, Free Stallion is a must read. Its great to see an actress take her position of celebrity, which is so very powerful, and wield it as a weapon for change and for good. Writing poems is Ambers way of inspiring change in this world, to make you pause and think a little differently about an issue you thought you had your mind made up on. Her writing is just delightful and I hope that she continues to publish her poetry for the world to see!
