“From Pyramids to Palaces: Architecture Around the World” by Tom Velcovsky and Jiri Bartunek, illustrated by Marie Kraus, takes readers on a journey through time and place, starting with an introduction that encourages readers to think about buildings as they currently know them and then look back into past buildings and their particular construction. The book showcases six classical architectural styles and their impact on global architecture. There are also seven other styles, focused on location and cultural influences, in the book. It is especially exciting that each of the buildings in the book exists in the present day and can be visited.

From the Great Pyramid of Giza to the Pantheon, Notre-Dame de Paris, the Palace of Versailles, the White House, and so many more interesting architectural spots, there is much to learn in the pages of this book. Floor plans for locations are supplied, along with their locations and the time periods in which they were constructed. Added details about stained glass, Baroque style, the Renaissance, color symbolism, and so much more is included throughout the pages to add depth and intrigue. Additionally, a glossary can be found in the back of the book to help clarify meanings of certain words and phrases.

Any lover of architecture, travel, or even just beautiful books with wonderful images will find themselves enthralled while reading this book that seeks to help readers discover the magic in each building.
