Fully Wooly

Heres another entry from Planet Girl (Kids Can Press) for the creative girls among us. Do you look at a ball of yarn and see&potential? Then this book is for you. Whether you prefer knitting or crocheting (or dont even know which youd like better, but are interested in learning), there are some really cool projects in this book for you.

It opens with some general advice and information on yarn and the supplies youll need to complete the projects within the book. Once you feel comfortable with that, turn the page and get a brief preview of all the different projects, which range from cool necklaces to hats and pillows and messenger bags.

There are actual pictures of the completed projects (I hate it when a book doesnt include these&after all, how do you know if you did it right, if you cant see it?) and also illustrations of different steps. While it does give you everything you need to know, this would also be a great book to share with an adult in your life who already knows the skills needed and can help you out (say, maybe your mother or grandmother&think bonding experience).

In the back of the book, if you find yourself hooked into your new hobby (haha), you can even learn how to make some related projects to support it&like a bag that holds needles and beaded needles (because we all need some bling). And after that comes a handy breakdown of the most common stitches so you have one easy place to look it up and refresh your memory.

Im a knitty girl myself, so I cant help but find this book to be really cool. In fact, theres a few projects in there Id like to try myself. The illustrations and the instructions are clear, though I think I might have found myself frustrated a bit in the beginning if Id tried to pick up a book like this without any help from my aunt (who taught me how to knit). It really depends on what kind of learner you are can you pick things up snap just like that from a book? Or do you need some real-life help? But this one is written well enough so that even learners like me would be able to pick it up with minimal assistance (okay, I admit it, Im a bit monkey-see, monkey-do).
