Im about as far away from the target audience of this book as you can get, seeing as Im a) not gay, b) not a guy, c) not a teenager and d) hopefully no longer completely taken over by teenage angst (well, mostly). That just goes to show how great a book it is, since I couldnt put it down once I started it. Actually, thats not entirely true I started by reading an excerpt of it and was forced to wait anxiously until my review copy arrived a few days later.

Russel is a completely believable teenager concerned with not only the normal teenage stuff (you know, zits, body odor, looking right, etc.) but also with keeping his secret well hidden. Hes gay.

Even so, he takes a leap of faith when he meets a fellow gay student online and they arrange to meet. Its hard to tell who is more surprised at that meeting Russell or Kevin, the most popular jock in school.

Then Russel discovers that one of his best friends, Min, is bi-sexual. After they all meet up at a pizza joint (successfully) and at school lunch (unsuccessfully), they all decide they need a way to meet. But how to do it and still keep their secret? Thats when the Geography Club is born. After all, who wants to talk about geography?

The expected happens and Russel learns a lot about himself and his friends during the process. I dont want to give everything away, so youll have to check it out for yourself.

I recommend this book for teens ages 14 and up, whether they are gay or not. Hey, after all, isnt it always good to walk a mile in the other guys shoes once in a while?
