Cyd Charisse (named after the famous dancer and actress) has just gotten kicked out of boarding school, and is having trouble settling back in with her uptight family, and her boyfriend, Shrimp, suddenly wants his space. So her parents agree to send her across the country to New York City to visit with "Frank real-dad," who she's only seen once, and who gave her her beloved ragdoll christened "Gingerbread." This heartwarming story tells about true family values, no matter how spread out your family is.

Gingerbread, by Rachel Cohn is a great book. I love it so much that i have read it three times! It's a good book for young adults , like myself, because it shows you your parents point of view through your actions. I also like it because you think about how much different and alike you are from the characters in the book, like Cyd Charise. She's an amazing character, even if she doens't always follow the rules. You all should read this book, its super good. :)

After being expelled from boarding school, Cyd Charisse has dumped her jerk of a boyfriend, Justin, and come back home. Her best friends now are Gingerbread, the doll her "bio-dad" bought her the one and only time they met, Sugar Pie, an old lady at a retiring house, and Shrimp, her new, hot surfer boyfriend. But after breaking the rules, Cyd and Gingerbread are sent to New York to meet her real dad and his "real" family. There, she discovers a cool older brother, patches things up with her bitter sister, and realizes how lucky she really is.

I loved Cyd Charisse. She's cool, rebellious, and punky, and she handles her situation with courage and attitude. Her being a "love child" was very different from anything else I have ever read. Some parts were kind of confusing, like I didn't know that her parents didn't know about her abortion. But, overall, this was a really good book that every girl would love.

Gingerbread is about a girl named Cyd Charisse who is an illegimate love child. Her father, Frank-dad, lives in NY. Cyd Charisse lives on the other side of the ocuntry with her mom and her stepdad, Sid-dad. Cyd Charisse is not good at making friends, and her only friends are Gingerbread, the rag doll that Frank-dad bought her, an old woman named Sugar Pie, and a surfer named Shrimp. Cyd Charisse gets the chance to visit her dad in New York and is excited. She hasn't seen her dad since he got her Gingerbread years and years ago. She also has some step-siblings named Danny and Elizabeth and has fantasies of how they will bond and how she will bond with her dad, as well. But when she gets to NY things don't go as Cyd expects.

This was a good book, and it gave insight on the mind of a teenager who happens to have a lot of feelings and thoughts. The only thingg i didn't like about his book was about how Cyd Charisse was so sexually active and had a lot of intentions. Besides that, the book was good.

I absolutely love this book. I love CC's personality and attitude. This is one book i definetly could not put down. It had a great storyline and was very capturing. I've lent my copy to all my friends and they've all returned it saying they loved it and could not put it down. CC's personality is truly unforgettable. Rachel Cohn did a wonderful job.

it was a good book. I liked how she's named after a famous person and people don't believe her when she's tells them her name. i thoought her boyfriend didn't understand her and it was kinda weird how she still carries around a doll.

This book is fast but it really grabs you and you keep wanting to find out what happens next. The main charcter Cyd Charrisse is so hip and interesting. You'll enjoy her a lot. SHe goes to New Yrok to stay with her real father after getting in trouble with her mom at home. In new York she meets her other side of the family and learns things about them and herself she has never known before. SHe takes this chacne to experience the world and she grows stronger and wiser and more independent as her family relationships grow stonger, as well. this is a great book for teenage girls because its fun, funny, and captivating. Plus Cyd has a rag doll she intuitively communicates with trhoughout the book, which is wierd, but cool at the same time. Cyd is such a different, independent character and is so fun to read about!
