Go Ask Alice

Well this book is actually more for younger teens I read it when I was 13. And I liked it when I was younger but then I relished it was so badly written. I really hate the fact how much emphases they put on the real ness of this book. For one they describe drugs in away not is far from the truth. Anyone that has taken LSD will know that it's not any where close to the way described in this book. Two the way it's written like a diary really gets on your nerves. Thirdly for being written by a psychiatrist it grammar and spelling is terrible even for young teens the stander of writing was so bad. It's still not the worse book to be read. I agree that it should be read in schools special when they do the dare program in 5th grade- if they even still do that program- but at a certain point I wouldn't recommend this book to any drug user cuz it lame or to any one older then 13. Maybe it would detour children

  Go Ask Alice is a book like no other. No one knows who wrote it, but you can`t help but feel a connection to the girl. Go Ask Alice is about a girl who goes from being a straight-A, well behaved teenager, to a broken young girl. Through out the book we see the reality of drugs and what they can destroy. Whether Family, Friends, or a life, the result is never good.
   We see "Alice" fall from grace because of drugs and what they can do. Set in the 70`s era, we can find her in places that are glorified in the main stream media, like for example woodstock.
   In short, Go Ask Alice is a testimony to drugs, and while excellent, little is not sad or depressing. This is why all young women shouldread Go Ask Alice.

Summary: Go Ask Alice is
about a teenage girl, suffering from drug addiction. With her life
spiraling down and out of control, she begins to write on her diary,
where she tells her side of the story.

Review: First
of all, this YA novel is entirely a work of pure fiction. It is however
made to be believed as a true story, which to me, is sort of like false
advertisement. I don't really mind, and this doesn't detract me from
appreciating the story and its message, but I can see how maybe others
would be bothered by this.
Second, I do believe this is one of those
books that I think are important to discover while at a younger age.
The message is simple; Drugs are bad. Do not use them.
However, I do
not recommend this so much to anyone older. The literary merit is close
to zero, and most of the information about drugs are based on
stereotypes and generalizations. At times, also, the situations,
events, and even the main character herself, seemed over the top and a
bit contrived. Because of this, I found it a bit difficult to relate to
the character, and the experiences she was going through. I believe
that with character-driven stories like these, it's extremely important
to have a powerful and memorable protagonist. Unfortunately, like I
said, I did not feel that Alice was memorable enough.
Having said
that, I would probably not be reading this again, or get a copy for
myself. I hope though, that people will not get me wrong. I do not
think this is a bad book at all. I do
appreciate it for its raw and emotional story, and its motives to
influence teens to stay away from bad habits, as I think this is
crucial. But as I already mentioned, this is one that is meant more for
younger readers and teens, than any other age group. I give it 3/5.

This is such a haunting book because it was a girls actual diary. This isn't some average classic by Pearl S. Buck or by William Shakespeare. It's nothing like the Chicken Soup books. This doesn't teach you a lesson. This shows you the horror of drugs and the pain it bring to you and everyone around you. I think this should be required reading in all High Schools. It brings you into her world. And it's a world of Hell.

This was a great book about addictions. It actually helped me through some of my struggles and i would reccommend it to almost anyone. Her addictions help her become stronger just like ours help us. This book is a very quick read. It is about a girl who goes on a countless number of drugs and basically does everything in the book. it is a very mature book with very mature content. The girl starts out as being a normal everyd day gir; but then everything fall apart slowly and she runs away from her family on several accounts. She ends up going to a nut house where she was accused of doing drugs once again but she actually never did the drugs again someone just slipped them into her drink like date rape. This book is very good and is written in diary form. I suggest this to all 14-18 year olds or maybe even any older age. I think it's more of a girls novel. Trust me, this book will make you never want to do drugs again.

  This book was touching and heart wrenching. Have you ever been in the center of reality? Relizing everything wrong with the world? Probably not. But, 'Go Ask Alice' puts you smack dab in it.

Warning: SPOILERS ALERT 

GOD.. I REALLY HATED THIS BOOK. When I first had finished it I thought it was OK... I thought about what had happened in the book. It basically consisted of her doing drugs and getting messed up, kinda getting better, doing more drugs and getting even more messed up, kinda getting better again, then DYING. It kinda just depressed me and its not that great of a story but I felt that it would be messed up for me to say that I didn't like this book because it was a true story of a girl's diary entries. But then, I thought to myself, is this book really true? The editors note said it was and it did seem like it was someone's diary but the story itself just seemed too... I don't know... RIDICULOUS. So I decided to look in the small tiny black print on the copyright page of the book. And there it was at the very top.

i have read this book many, many times before. And i love it each time i read it. The first two times read it was by choice. Then i had to read it for my health class. Which i thought it was a great book to read during the drug unit in our class. It shows you the truth behind what could hapen when you choice to do drugs. And the diffrenent types if drugs at that. Alice was a sweet girl that got pretty much tricked into trying LSD for that first time at a party. The sad thing about it is, things like that happen all the time and we wont ever know it happen til it dose. It really makes you think about the choices you make. About drugs, parties, and even sex. You never know what will happen and i believe this book shows what can really happen. Im not saying all the things she did was wrong, because she did try and stop and get clean. But that didnt stop some of the eople that she met down the road of drugs and parties.
