WARNING: Don't open this book if you have other things to do! It is that riveting. I was just going to read a page or two; next thing I knew, the day was shot and I was sighing over the ending of one of the best books I've read in a very long time.

Audrey is an intelligent person, a good girl who cares about her grades, her family, and her friends. It's totally amazing when studly Luke wants to be with her but their "friends with benefits" relationship is not working for Audrey.

On the night she breaks it off with Luke, someone takes a picture of her in a private moment with him; they're in what you might call a "compromising position." That picture is broadcast everywhere via cell phone and on the Internet. Suddenly Audrey is facing a tremendous tidal wave onslaught of reaction to her sexuality.

She endures uncomfortable parental discussions, a gynecologist's exam, and the principal informing her that as an honor student, she should be a better example to others. SHE should be a better example, but Luke isn't even mentioned . . .! Nor is he called a slut and ho by the other kids. Meanwhile Luke treats Audrey like she's dragged him into something disgusting. And then things go from terrible to worse when Audrey's best friend turns on her.

This is a wowza of a great read--impossible to put down. It is sad and funny, bitter and life-affirming. It skewers society's attitudes toward teens and sex, raises questions about love and sex (must they always be combined?), and ponders the inequalities between genders when sex enters the picture. Audrey is a sympathetic, smart character and the reader can't help but empathize. The plot moves right along, serving up some unforeseen twists, with a couple of walloping surprises.

This excellent story is realistic and unflinching. The publisher suggests it's suitable for Grade 9 and above. I give it my highest recommendation for mature teens.
