User reviews
From the very first page you fall in love with Harry. And the adventure only gets better as time go on. I love the adult themes and how many challenged Harry has to face that a young child normally doesn't go through. It makes him stronger. It's a beautiful book.
Is amazing how Rowling manages to make you feel son strong everything that Harry is going thru. I really enjoyed and I absolutely recommend it to any one wanting to read something magical about magic.
this book was kinda wierd just because it was the first one. it was like an introduction to harry's crazy life. voldemort drinking unicorn blood was just sick!! harry could speak parcel tounge just like voldemort. hagrid has a super cool motorcycle!! the three headed dog guarding the sorcers stone was a very unique idea.
Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone is the story of Harry Potter a boy who lives with and is treated like a whipping boy by his aunt Petunia, uncle Verson and their son Dudly for ten years. Before his eleventh birthday Harry get a series of letters that are destroyed by his uncle, but the letters still come resulting in his uncle taking the whole family away from their home. But on the night of his eleventh birthday Hagrid comes and tells Harry what the Dursleys have kept from him. Which is that Harry is a wizard and has been accepted to attend Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry, the place where he meets new friends, and enemies...
When i first read this book it was after the movie came out in 2001, this book was filled with so much magic that after i read it i thought i could cast spells like the characters. When i finished reading this book i was a little sad because it was like saying bye to your friend when the school year was over, but when i found out there was another i was happy. This book is amazing, and i recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it before especially children because it's filled with magic, and all the things kids enjoy.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling introduces the reader to the magical world coexisting with our own. Harry Potter begins his life as many children (unfortunately) do...under-appreciated, over worked, and lacking both attention and love. He was left at the house of his only blood relatives, the Durley's, by a rather motley crew composed of a giant (Hagrid), one witch (Professor McGonagall), and one wizard (Professor Albus Dumbledore). Unbeknownst to this little one, his destiny is far greater than can be imagined. At the tender age of eleven, young Harry Potter gets a small taste of what is yet to come in the revelation of his parents past, and his potential future...as a wizard (in training) at Hogwart's. Choosing his friends wisely, Harry builds a supportive team able to work through the best of times and the worst. Lucky him...as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is lurking in the shadows, seeking to regain what was taken from him. Danger! Adventure! Friendship! One word can sum this story up....MAGIC!
In honor of the latest HP movie release, I felt it appropriate to highlight the book that started it all.....Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. I must admit, I was not an initial fan of the series! Before you start drawing pitchforks, read me out...I only mean that they only showed up on my radar after the third book was released and I kept hearing things about it in the press. So, I did what I would normally do, picked up the trade paperback version at my local discount store and gave it a try. Needless to say, I was hooked! I promptly went about purchasing the hardcover versions of all available titles, which at the time left me in wait of book 4 (Goblet of Fire). I must confess...I did pick my book up at midnight with everyone else! The fan base on this series ranges from the young to the young at heart, so no one can feel out of place. Don't just see the movies....read the books!Highly recommended reading for one and all!
This book was completely magical and a really good read. It's about an eleven year old boy who grew up with his Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin because his parents were killed by the dark Lord, Voldemort. The magical world was made unknown to Harry, but when he turned eleven he received a visit from Hagrid, keeper of keys at Hogwarts. Hagrid explained everything to Harry and so begins his magical journey. The book had me turning pages by the minute and was far more detailed than the movie. All seven books in this series are very well written!
I really enjoyed the imagination and the realism put into such a fantasy book. I thought at first before reading the book, 'oh, it's just a silly book about wizards and magic and hocus pocus', but once I had some incentive to read it, I was hooked and can now call myself a Harry Potter fan. J.K. Rowling has created a captivating tale about a young orphaned boy being mistreated by his aunt and uncle then discovering that he is a wizard, and in fact a very powerful one, and learning of his parents' heroic and tragic deaths. And thus begins an amazing series!
Harry Potter lives with his neglectful Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia Dursley and their bully son, Dudley. His parents died in a car accident when he was just one year old, leaving him with a lightening bolt scar on his forhead. Odd things always seem to happen around Harry, like when his Aunt Petunia got so sick of his untidy hair, she decided to cut it herself, leaving him practically bald, but the next morning it was back to how it had been before the cut! One day while Harry collected the mail for his Uncle Vernon, he came across a letter for himself. His Uncle snatched it away before he had a chance to read it. The sender didn't give up, more and more of the letters he was forbidden to read poured into his Aumt and Uncles house over a few days, sending the Dursley's into hiding. Perched ontop of a boulder out in the sea, in a little hut, with the winding crashing the rain against a window, Harry counted down the seconds until his eleventh birthday. There was a loud rapping on the huts door, then crash, the door flew open and in came the largest man Harry had ever seen. Hagrid was the gamekeeper of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, sent to tell Harry that he was a wizard and it was time for him to begin his education...
I really like this book because it's about a boy named Harry who is treated badly by his Aunt and Uncle. But eventually things get better when he finds out that he's a wizard. He meets a gentle giant named Hagrid who takes him to Hogwart's which is a wizard people for people like Harry. He makes two friends and there names are Ron and Heromine. Everything isn't perfect at Hogwarts theres another boy who goes to Hogwarts thats a jerk and his name is Malfoy. There's nothing I didn't like about this book, too me it's pretty much perfect. Theres nothing I wouldn't change in this book. That's why I gave it a 5. If you haven't read this book... I would go to your local library as soon as possible.
