In the astonishing finale to the His Dark Materials trilogy, Lyra and Will are in unspeakable danger. With help from Iorek Byrnison the armored bear and two tiny Gallivespian spies, they must journey to a dank and gray-lit world where no living soul has ever gone. All the while, Dr. Mary Malone builds a magnificent Amber Spyglass. An assassin hunts her down, and Lord Asriel, with a troop of shining angels, fights his mighty rebellion, in a battle of strange allies—and shocking sacrifice.

As war rages and Dust drains from the sky, the fate of the living—and the dead—finally comes to depend on two children and the simple truth of one simple story.

I didn't enjoy this series very much. The daemons (souls that look like animals) but it changed drastically in the second book; they brought in angels. I loved the fact that children's daemons have the ability to change shape. Though the concept that God didn't create the world but made everyone think he did just to have power and be worshipped is interesting it still felt unrelated to the first book. It was good to learn more about Dust and the prophecy that's been hinted at so often.

Lyra's character just plain annoys me! She's bossy, obnoxious and just plain annoying. Pan, Serafina Pekkala and Iorik are cool. I liked how Dr. Mary got her own adventure with strange creatures for friends. Will was interesting and had some good character development, dealing with challenges on his adventure whilst being concerned about the people he's killed, including his own father, and worrying about his mother all while being a teenager boy.

The Amber Spyglass is the one of the best books, for all ages ever written. Whether you are 10 or 50, this book keeps you sucked into it's magical world of other dimensions and angels. Going through many universes over-layed on top of each other, including the land of the dead, this finale is spectacular.

In this book, romance has bloomed, Will and Lyra finally see that they are in love with each other. At the end, I cried. They still talked to 'each other' in their park, but they will never ever see each other again.

My favourite character has been, and always will be Lyra. I loved how she was determined. But nearing the end I felt a bit cut off from the characters but that is because the author probably wanted their thoughts to be secret when they admitted they were in love.

I also loved their daemons. I always knew Pan would settle on something ferrety like, he just seemed to have that kind of personality. I didn't expect Will's daemon would be a cat. Well sometimes you never now what could happen. In the book, when Will and Lyra's daemons went off to play and hid from them. I knew something was up.

Other than this horribly sad part, this book is brilliant (okay even the sad ending is perfectly written). I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves books!

The Amber Spyglass has to be one of the best sequels ever written. Lyra and Will are still in search for their ultimate goal, and you still love them. Pullman intertwines the two into more worlds, with more people, and so many adventures that you think the book would last forever.

In this stunning sequel, this series comes to an end that no one expects. You travel to more worlds than you can dream of, and even into the land of the dead. Romance is abound, as well as Angels, The Authority, and the sacrifices of a lifetime.

This is a series that you have to read, and this is a sequel that you will definitely love.

In this third and final installment of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, Lyra and Will have a mission to complete, yet the ending of which they do not know for certain.  Once again traveling between worlds takes them to places they've never been and some they wish to never return.  Trying to set her friends free, some of which passed away during the battles with "the Gobblers", this dynamic duo find themselves in the "underworld".  To set the trapped souls free, they must travel a great distance to the highest peaks to cut another doorway out of this land.  Once the spirits are released, they add to the ever ebbing tide of Dust that touches everything in its unseen travels.  But this is not where the story ends....far from it in fact!  Their are even greater forces at work that will stop at nothing to prevent Lyra from reaching the fate she was destined for.....a second Eve!

Within this wild conclusion, there are many stories being told.  In the end, the right choice is made however hard and disheartening it may be.  Unfortunately, I can not say the ending is happy (it's not), but it is an ending at that, and one that was bound to be hard either way it went.  For readers that ventured into this world, follow through on this read to find your way back out.

A stunning finale of an amazing trilogy! This book introduces another character who comes into possession of an amber spyglass which allows her to see "dust." This book tackles issues of the afterlife, God, and the human existence in general. It is quite controversial with its views on christianity. Previous questions unanswered in the previous two books are concluded here. The conclusion left me in tears and awe at the journey of Lyra and Will (and others).

The final book in the His dark material books was amazing. It start off with Lyra back with her mother who kidnapped. The adventures start soon after that. I have not read this book in a couple of years, but i still remeber the heartbreak of that ending. You have to (HAVE TO) read the other two to understand the horribleness of that ending. It was sad and painful. Yet the book had an overall hopeful meaning. It teaches the meaning off true love, and how we can all redeem ourselves no matter what horrible thing you did.
p.s Lyra rules the word!!!

Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass! A wonderful, exciting and breathtaking end to this powerful trilogy!
Now as I look back on the first two books I notice just how much the story has evolved and taken shape. Just when you think it can't get any better...WAM! He gives you another world! And just when you think you have a character figured out...BOOM! They go off and transform into a brave hero!
These books truly kept me spellbound. I devoured them and I am sure I will again very soon. I loved them deeply. Hope you enjoy them as well!!

Carmen

(Read The Golden Compass first, then The Subtle Knife! After The Amber Spyglass you may want to read Lyra's Oxford! And soon to come out is a book called The Book of Dust!)

I thought this book was great!!! It really ties everything together. I love how the love of Lira and Will made everything come together. I thought it was sad though that they had to be seperated. And the ghost!! That was so cool. It's nice that they helped to free them. I can't believe what the subtle knife did everytime it opened to another world. I think the witches are really cool too.

The Amber Spyglass is the conclusion to a great trilogy, the Dark Materials trilogy.

This focuses more on a female professor (can't remember her name right now), who meet up with Lyra and Will to defeat this sort of evil. Evil, being people who wish to use Dust for their self needs.

The trio end up going through so many adventures, such as visiting death, closing portals, and even witnessing a war with angels.

Note that this book is very philosphical and very anti-christianity. Still, it is a very well thought out story and people should read this if they enjoy Harr Potter and the likes!
