I Am a Story is a simple, yet extremely powerful children’s book. It is a perfect book to gift a child because as they grow they will be able to understand it more and more each time they read it. Reading it as an adult, the message behind it was so strong because the history behind storytelling and books has been a long, hard one.
Stories have been past down through generations, from all parts of our Earth. In I AM A STORY, the author takes us on that journey and starts directly at the beginning.
“I am a story. I was told around a campfire…”
From the ancient Egypt to current times, this book tells the story of stories. Throughout history stories have been told across the globe, and through different methods, were preserved. Whether it was though paintings on caves, written on papyrus, woven into tapestries, or told through a stage, stories were always a part of every culture.
What you will love about this book:
Children will adore the very detailed and beautiful images that this book has to offer. It is colorful on some pages, darker on others, and no page is the same as another. Because it looked at the way different people or cultures told their stories, it provided a very diverse cast of characters. I know most children will feel represented in these pages, especially towards the end where everyone is on one page.
Final thoughts?
This book is an important book, especially during these times. It shows that despite the differences across the world, we are all connected through the stories we tell. The illustrations truly tell the most wonderful story, and are bound to make any child fall in love with this book! Also, there was a Book Thief reference towards the middle that I know fans will adore :)
“I can go with you anywhere and will live forever.
I am a story. ”
