“Incredible: Stars of the Plant World” by Benjamin Flouw is deserving of its title. The book starts out with helpful words to know as you progress through the book. There are handy images of the different types of trees and other plants showcased throughout the pages. From giants in the forest to desert plants, plants found in water, fruits and seeds that stem from plants, out of this world species, prehistoric plants, and more, there is so much to learn about and engage with for anyone who has an interest in learning.
Even for those who already know so much about plants, there may be more to be learned, including about monkey puzzle trees that are believed to be the oldest species of conifer and can live for more than 700 years. Or water lilies whose leaves can measure more than 10 feet wide. There is even a baobab tree that has a base of 650 square feet—the size of a small apartment—and to top it off, it’s thought to be more than 800 years old.
A map at the back of the book shows more details, including numbers that match up to which type of plant is found in each place, with a page number attached to each to index the plants for further ease in learning and understanding. Plant lovers will enjoy this book and others will be engaged and want to learn more after discovering new and worthwhile facts.
