Haven Terra is still recovering from an internship that brought her literally to the brink of hell when a trip to New Orleans leads to more trouble. There, while taking part in a student volunteer program, Haven and her friends Dante and Lance run across an enclave of devils known as the Krewe.

These shape-shifting devils are more reckless and vicious than any Haven, Lance, and Dante have encountered. Yet the friends soon discover that their French Quarter housemates are also angels in training, and together they must face off with the Krewe in their quest for wings.

But Haven’s resolve is tested when Lucian, the repentant devil with whom she was infatuated, resurfaces and asks her for help escaping the underworld. Can he be trusted? Or will aiding him cost Haven her angel wings — and her life?

review Infatuate was a fairly good sequel, but I was also a little disappointed. I think part of that is due to the fact that I wasn't expecting much from its predecessor, and was pleasantly surprised.

This book has the sequel-relationship curse. You know when the first book is all about the lovers getting together and the sequel is all about the problems in their relationship? Yeah, that happened here. And the terribly annoying thing about it all is that it didn't seem necessary at all. Plus, the problem was just stupid. Oh, there's this new pretty girl and she's tempting Lance, but it really didn't have to turn out as badly as it did. She should have said something since it was bothering her and Lance should have drawn the line when Sabine (said new pretty girl) started getting a little too cozy. And this time I just can't chalk it up to teenage hormones since it really could have been cleared up before it even started.

The overall plot was pretty good, and I rather liked all the new characters, though Sabine was kind of a B for the majority of the book, but it was a bit predictable. I didn't ever really feel surprised during my reading. Enjoyable enough, but not anything earth-shattering.

And I have one random little annoyance: Agresti kept using "so many" in a weird way. Like this, for instance: "By the end it bulged with so many trophies from these terrors." Maybe I'm being overly weird about this, but "so many" doesn't help me picture something unless you elaborate like: "...so many trophies from these terrors, it was nearly bursting" or something like that.

The Nutshell: I'll certainly be reading the next in the series, but Infatuate was a bit disappointing. The problems between Lance and Haven seemed too forced and unnecessary and the plot was a little predictable. In all, not what I'd hoped for, but not a bad read either.

Hit/Near Miss
