Hi, YABCers!

Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for LOCAL GIRL SWEPT AWAY by Ellen Wittlinger, releasing June 15, 2016 from Merit Press. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Ellen:

Welcome, YABC readers, to the cover reveal for my book LOCAL GIRL SWEPT AWAY. Don’t you love this cover? I think it’s very mysterious, as it should be. Who is that girl and why is she standing there in a big storm, looking out to sea? Kudos to the cover artist at Merit Press for capturing my “local girl” so perfectly. And, oh yeah, big thanks to John Green for the quote. It makes me humble.

Enjoy!

About the Book

All four of the best friends were out on the breakwater together, watching a huge storm come in over the spit of land called Provincetown. Lorna, always their leader, the one who’d made them come out in this terrible weather, was out front, running. Finn, who’d loved Lorna for years, followed next, then Lucas, who loved her secretly, and finally, Jackie, her best friend always. But it got so dark, and the wind was so loud it was impossible to hear anyone. Jackie wasn’t sure just where everybody was anymore, and then she saw it, the white jacket Lorna always wore, floating far out in the ocean, being dragged out to sea. The three of them were helpless. What could they do? And who would they be now, without Lorna?

I am not usually a fan of real-people model book covers (I like book covers with drawings) but it works for me here since the girl is not facing us looking yonder the greyish sky and sea. I agree, it gives a mysterious vibe.

As for the synopsis, I noticed that there’s a different synopsis posted on Goodreads. I think I like the one in Goodreads more. But all the same, I’m excited for this book!

The cover reminds me of a 1960’s newspaper article photo and I love the wind-swept font. This book sounds exciting, heart-breaking, and unique for me.

Love this cover. It depicts just enough mystery and a sense of ominous, but really gives the reader a picture of who the character is without even showing her face. I think the synopsis is great- very original, and I like the idea of the boy who loves her secretly:)
