Beautiful

Absolutely brilliant! With Death as the narrator, this book takes you through a few years in the life of a girl living through the second world war. Although world war books tend to be the same, this gives it a different angle. The fact that they talk about books a...

An instant classic

A brilliant and different book. The story of a girl who goes to England from America just before a fictional war after (I assume) 9/11 and what happens to her and her cousins. A great dystopian book that is already a classic.

A great book for boys

I got this book in bookclub and I should probably read it at some point anyway... This was fun. Not as good as everyone said, but it kept me gripped. Good fun and definitely recommended for boys.

A must read

I really loved this book! I am promptly going out to buy my own copy. It deals with such terrible things in such a beautiful way. Highly recommended.

fun, but not worth the hype

I succumbed... and loved it! Who would have guessed? Mae was right, the writing isn't brilliant, and it is full of teenage-angst, but i couldn't put it down... A fun read, but not worth the hype

Too much of the same

The only reason I keep reading this series is because I can asily read it on my phone. This one wasn't great, but at least I was reading.

A bit far fetched

A lot of fun, but more of the same. I liked it and it kept me reading. so that's great. A little bit far-fetched though... I will keep reading about Alex's adventures when I don't have something to read (or I want something easy), but it's...

Fast-paced

I enjoyed this second installment (again on my iPhone Kindle app). It took me a few hours and I really enjoyed the fast-paced adventure. Bring on the next one!

Captivating

Alex's adventures remind me of the Hardy Boys and how I felt when I read them for the first time as a teenager. Sure, it's not great literature, but it's fun, easy and captivating. I will definitely read the rest of them. It was also the...

Quick, fun, hard to put down

This kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole 4 hours it took me to read it... I enjoyed it more than the first two. It is the perfect book for my current insane life.

Brilliant series

I loved this book! So clever, fun and engaging. Skulduggery is a brilliant and original protagonist. I can't recommend the rest of the series highly enough.

Absorbing

I really enjoyed this book for what it was. It kept me up till late, I finished it in one day and it was exactly right. It is a kids' book though and I would have been obsessed with it and gotten lost in it at 10, but now I...

Worth the hype - thankfully read it before

he series consumed me. I couldn't put the books down, I hardly slept and when I did, I had nightmwres that I was in the hunger games myself. The long term effect of war and political games on children is so devastating that it made this fictional post-apocalyptical world completely...

Brilliant YA

The review I wrote for book one is true for this book as well. It consumed me and was incredible. I couldn't put it down. I love how the political is entertwined in the series.
