When Michael's father loses his job, he buys a boat and convinces Michael and his mother to sail around the world. It's an ideal trip - even Michael's sheepdog can come along. It starts out as the perfect family adventure - until Michael is swept overboard. He's washed up on an island, where he struggles to survive. Then he discovers that he's not alone. His fellow-castaway, Kensuke, is wary of him. But when Michael's life is threatened, Kensuke slowly lets the boy into his world. The two develop a close understanding in this remote place, but the question of rescue continues to divide them.

Kensuke's Kingdom is about a young boy named Michael, who, with his parents, sells their house and buys a boat, wanting to sail around the world. On their journey, they get caught in a storm, where Michael is flung overboard. He wakes up on an island, finding himself only with the company of his dog Stella, and the wildlife that lives on the island. But Michael soon discovers the existence of another man, a man named Kensuke. He is at first untrusting towards Michael, and only allows Michael on 1/2 of his island, but as the days wear by, Kensuke starts allowing Michael slowly into his world.

This book is about a really sweet story that captures the human nature perfectly. This book is about people setting aside their differences, to come together for their survival on a desert island. All the characters are very well developed, and I think that this book may be one of Michael Morpurgo's best (close to some others though).

I recommend this to everyone as it is perfect for all ages, children and adults.

Michael and his dog Stella are stranded on an island after they fall off of a boat. They are not the only inhabitants of the island. A man lives there too. The man called Kensuke has survived on the island for quite a time and lives on luxury compared to Michael's time. At first, Kensuke is hostile and untrusting towards Michael and only allows Michael to stay on 1/2 of the island. Then Kensuke slowly allows Michael into his world.

I thought that this story was so sweet and described human nature very well. The characters were very well developed.

Michael Morpurgo is an excellent author, if you've never come across him before, and this book is no exception.

'Kensuke's Kingdom' is basically a story about a boy getting stranded on a desert island. But it's beautifully done, from the cultural differences between the main characters to the ways in which their experiences subtly alter their personalities and the way they look at life.

This is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it, to anyone - regardless of what type of books they would normally read.

All seems well on sailing trip that Michael is on with his family and dog, Stella until on day Michael and Stella are swept overboard. They wake up on an island. They must survive the mosquitoes, heat, and other unknown dangers. At first, Michael thinks they are alone on the island, until he finds water and food laid out for him. Who is this mysterious person that lays this supplies out for them? And why? Michael's questions are answered when he meets Kensuke, an old Japanese soldier. They become close friends after overcoming differences. But will someone find Michael? And if someone does, will Michael leave Kensuke? Read Kensuke's Kingdom to find out!

Although this book was quite an easy read, it was wonderful! I would recommend it to people who like adventure stories.
