About This Book:
Friendly Halloween characters visit one another to deliver Halloween treats without being seen. When each door is opened, it reveals a different character being “booed,” while the giver of the BOO is hidden behind the door flap. On the next spread, the character who has been BOOED goes on to BOO another friend, and so on. The final spread reveals all four characters, who have previously been BOOED, as they head to one final door with a mirror behind it. Guess who they BOO? It’s YOU the reader.
“Booing” rose in popularity during the pandemic when Halloween activities such as school parties and neighborhood gatherings couldn’t take place. Booing became the ultimate socially distanced way of having Halloween fun and showing the special people in your life your appreciation. Even though this is primarily a US activity, the concept of characters giving a treat to a friend will resonate across the globe.

adorable and fun lift-the-flap Halloween book
GUESS WHO? BOO TO YOU! is an adorable lift-the-flap picture book, great for Halloween. The story follows different characters as they knock on doors and reveal the next Halloweeny character. The end of the book brings all the characters to a door that reveals a mirror for some extra fun.
What I loved: This is a simple but adorable concept. I loved the short, rhyming phrases, which also included a lot of repetition. This is great for toddlers. The Halloween creatures were also spot-on and adorable with unique houses and doors for children to explore. The lift-the-flap concept works well here and adds extra fun with a mirror for little ones to check themselves out.
The illustrations are fantastic with lots of happy characters and bright colors. There was plenty of detail to check out on each page and maintain interest over several reads. The font was bold, clear, and easy to read aloud. A QR code on the back provides an audiobook for independent reading as well.
What left me wanting more: As a very small thing, the flaps could be a bit easy to rip as they are in paper vs the typical cardboard. A board book version of this would be fantastic!
Final verdict: GUESS WHO? BOO TO YOU! is a delightful lift-the-flap picture book that combines simple rhymes, adorable characters, and bright colors into a Halloween win! This is great for toddlers.
