Kid Review: Hen in the Bed by Katrina Charman

About This Book:

There were 10 in the bed and the speckled hen said, “Roll over! Roll over!”

Count the funny animal friends as they noisily roll, flop, and tumble out of bed, one by one, in this clever split-page picture book.

As the bed gets emptier, bedtime gets more and more chaotic.

Will anyone EVER get any sleep?

“Roll Over”

The bed starts off with ten animals in it, then the speckled hen says, “Roll over.” One by one, the animals roll, but whoever is on the end is pushed off with a thump. This continues until the speckled hen is the only one remaining in the bed, and the animals aren’t too happy about it since all they want to do is sleep.

HEN IN THE BED is a classic that I sang to my daughter as we read. I love the layout of the book and how the pages are small enough to cover the animal that is falling off so when you turn it, they’re on the floor next. The uneven pages make the story more engaging and my daughter and I shared some laughs with this text that you can’t help but to read more like a song. The illustrations are cute with bold colors and sharp lines.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this classic to children starting with infancy because it introduces counting and different types of animals. It’s such a fun and engaging book that it’s one parents will enjoy reading to their children. It’ll make a funny and carefree bedtime story.
