What I loved:
First and foremost, the characters. Princess Charlotte's fierce, unyielding manner. The way her character is left with so much room for growth -- and grow, she does.
Prince Young, who needs to grow so much in his own way. His implacable sense of duty and failure to understand emotions make him more endearing than not.

The cultural and diversity aspects left this retelling with quiet undertones of acceptance and understanding.

The writing style is a nice blend of fantasy and contemporary, and the dual points of view help to broaden the world view and character building. The story moves along quickly and beautifully, with not even the slightest of lulls. The world building isn't impacted at all by the fast pace, with each element of the kingdom and castle realized as the reader goes along the journey.

Where I Wanted More:

There were moments I wished we could linger in, and times I wished the narrative wasn't quite so unreliable.

The Bottom Line:

Kingdom Cold is a unique, diverse retelling of a classic Arthurian tale that is nearly impossible to put down once you put it up. Perfect for any fans of fairy tale retellings!
