Design Your Dream is by far one of the most fun activity books ever! It is clear that the creators of this book took a lot of time and effort to create a perfect activity book, especially for those who may be passionate about designing / interior decorating.

As I flipped through the pages when I first received the book, I was in awe. There are literally hundreds of cut-outs that you can use to decorate with, and tons of “pattern” pages to help you plan out your room. It includes almost all the colors and patterns you could think of, but also leaves room for you to include your own creative patterns (more on this later).

One of the first things I did when I got this book was show it to one of the girls I sit for. She is not only creative, but quickly becomes passionate about any projects she takes on. I knew this would be the perfect book for her, and she absolutely fell in love!

From the beginning, there are little activities and things to help guide you in which direction you’d like to go and explanations for design-terminology. On page 4, you learn about swatching, something that helps you to choose the patterns / the direction in which you’d like to go in, in terms of designing. I thought this was a great little addition to the book because it is something that real interior decorators and designers use, as well as a useful tool for everyone who purchasing this book!

Later on is where all the fun begins! There is a quiz which will help you choose the style that would most likely fit with you. Some of the styles were the basic ones like modern or vintage, and then others like boho chic and glam rock. Then, you can flip through the book and choose whichever room you’d like to decorate at the moment. There are so many to choose from and so many patterns, styles, or directions you can go with them. It really was so lovely to experiment with all the rooms!

Final thoughts?

This is one of the those books that truly allows for a child to feel in charge of their own creation. I like that it guided them, with all the instructions and definitions and pictures, but it never took over. Each child can choose from hundreds of cutouts, and if they aren’t satisfied with the ones given- they always have the option of printing their own patterns or objects!
