Little Red Riding Hood and Other Stories contains three stories in one book. You get the tales of Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, and The Enormous Turnip. Little Red Riding Hood tells you the story of a girl who is trying to get treats for her grandma when a wolf interferes with her plan. Will Grandma ever get her treats? The Three Little Pigs tells the story of three pigs building their houses when a wolf interferes and ruins their plans. Will any of them be successful in their mission? The Enormous Turnip tells you the story of a large turnip that everyone is trying to pull out from the ground so that they may enjoy it. Will they ever get this turnip to their table?

What I liked: I was so excited to read this one as I wanted to see a different take on my familiar favorite childhood stories. I appreciated the illustrations in this book as they added a lot of humor to the stories and they also made the wolf less scary. I also enjoyed all of the interactions between characters throughout this story. Their interactions made the story come alive along with the images.

There were several moments throughout these stories where I couldn’t help but laugh. These are moments that I expected since I have read these stories before but it is rare to see these scenes illustrated. I love the moments in which the big bad wolf eats everyone, but also when justice is served by the woodsman. I also like that the story right after Little Red Riding Hood is The Three Little Pigs, both stories in which the big bad wolf does not win. I also appreciated how the last story was very different from the first two and brought some humor to the closing of this book.

Final Verdict: Little Red Riding Hood and Other Stories is a great bedtime book that will introduce children to the classic stories that we grew up with. Children will love the familiar art style from Maisy's books and the fun and silly take on these classic stories.
