What I liked:
Lost Kingdom is a debut fantasy novel by Laurel Black, due out in January 2024. Lost Kingdom is told from two separate points of view. We have Raven, who is from a lost tribe taken prisoner to work in the rahthlan mines. She has no memories of where she is from; her only clue is the map on her hand. Jeddak is a kovak with a bear familair who is desperate to save his love by finding a lost stone. Both characters have a lost lover or family member they are desperate to save; both will be tricked and tested as they journey together to restore Raven's magic and her memories.
Final Verdict:
Lost Kingdom is a creative, thought-out fantasy novel; it contains exciting characters, betrayal, and a plot that keeps you guessing as you travel along with Jeddak and Raven. The romance is there but not overwhelming for the story; it relies more on the decisions of the two main characters and the path they take. I found the places they travel through quite creative, especially the Forbidden Forest and the Bramble Thorn territories. The ending is open for more books in the series, and I hope we get them.
