In Love at Second Sight, Cam, a fifteen year old, has planned on going under the radar through his Sophomore year. After all Cam is a human that is in a school full of other kids with paranormal powers so it shouldn’t be too hard. Well that is until he has a psychic glimpse in front of the whole school and sees a teenage girl getting murdered from the view of the killer. Now Cam is being courted by the other supernatural factions in the city and has to work with his new friends to figure out who he can trust and identify the girl in his vision so they can intervene.

What I Liked: F.T. Lukens is an auto-buy author for me as I have enjoyed several of their other books so I was delighted to see that they had a new book coming out. Love at Second Sight is a riveting read that has you on your toes as soon as the action begins. You will think that you unraveled the twist in the story only to find another one coming that turns your expectations on their head.

As with all F. T. Lukens books, there is plenty of world building before the action begins. Stick with this book as you learn about the characters and the factions through Cam’s interactions with Gemma. Once you have made it past the world building and character introductions, the plot thickens. The intricate plot is one of the strengths for this book making it impossible to put down.

The friend group is a highlight to this story as each member brings something unique to the table. Each friend is able to showcase their strengths as they solve this mystery and attempt to change the future yet also are open about their vulnerabilities and how the others can step in during these moments. The love interest in the story is interesting and adds an additional layer of mystery as you get to understand Cam’s feelings and concerns about the potential relationship.

The side characters add depth and charm to the story, such as the older woman that Cam is introduced to in the psychic guild. Their wisdom and encouragement for Cam to embrace his powers and stay true to himself were a heartwarming touch in this story.

Final Verdict: F.T. Lukens has done it again, Love at Second Sight is a page turning book that will have you wanting more long after it is done. This book is a captivating and brilliantly written story that keeps you guessing at every turn. Young adults ages 14 and up along with adults will enjoy being immersed in this fantasy as they try to figure out the mystery alongside Cam and his friends.
