I really love this book.

It is wonderfully written by one of the best authors of all time. Sharon Creech's books are heartfelt and keep you wanting more.

This is a great book you can read over and over and over again. It NEVER gets old.

For anyone who has ever had a pet, this book is so good it will make you cry.

Book Review On Love That Dog


My book is not the best one anyone could ever read, but I would be happy to show you why. This is a book that is written in free verse poetry form. It takes places at Jacks(protagonist) school. The book also isnt so great when it comes to descriptions or different settings so thats the only spot where it takes place. There are three main characters in this story. One of them is Jack, in this story he write poetry but is very embarrassed about it. Second, there is Jacks teacher, his teacher encourages him to go on with his poetry as much as he can even though Jacks too embarrassed to write his name on the poems he writes. Lastly, there is Mr. Walter Dean Myers, he becomes a key character in the book as soon as Jack starts reading his poems. To pretty much summarize what I have been speaking about, the story is about a boy named Jack who likes to write poetry, but too scared to share that fact with his classmates. Through out the story he keeps reading poems of various styles and every time he reads one, he makes a new one or edits one of the written ones so they sound better. His favorite poem ends up to be Love That Boy, by Mr. Walter Dean Myers. He liked it so much he sent him an email asking for him to come to Jacks school, and he actually came! Afterwards of that action taking place Jack was courageous enough to put his name on his papers, and then on he wrote great poetry. Though it sounds good, I truthfully was disgusted with this book.
Though I absolutely love poetry, I do not recommend this book. This book made me feel as if I was reading at a second grade level. Literally, every page I read took me less that a minute to read because of the easy words and little amount on the page. I really understood the plot and what was taking place, but it didnt have enough to put me in a state of mind where I actually wanted to read more and concentrate on it as much as I can. The plot was pretty realistic, but it was just too boring. Though I didnt like the book I did like that they wrote it in poetry form because it made everything a bit more interesting. I feel very strongly about my personal opinion of the book.
I dont think I will be reading anymore of this authors books. I dont want to because of the way they wrote this book. It pretty much says the author doesnt even try to add detail to their books. This book makes me feel like the author just rushed while writing this to get it done with. For that fact I think the author needs to recognize that great things take time and patience. I dont recommend this book to anyone who likes detailed things.

The book I read was Love That Dog. It was a novel and had poems in it too. The setting was at a school with a teacher names Miss Stretchbery. The main character was a student of Miss Stretchbery although his name was not mentioned. A quote that was in the book that I likes was,
I dont want to
Because boys
Dont write poetry,
Girls do.
The genre of the book was poetry. Although it was not all poetry, they were talking about poetry; they were writing poems and talking about poets. The point of view was being told from a student of Miss Stretchbery. He was talking all about his own opinions about poetry.
Love That Dog was all about a boy whose class is writing poetry. At first he doesnt want to try t and says its for girls not boy, but finally his teacher persuaded him to try and he found out he is a wonderful poet. He gets more and more interested in poetry and starts to write poems. The best one he wrote was about his dog that died.

That poem was inspired from his favorite poet Mr. Walter Deen Meyers. So, he wrote a letter to Mr. Walter Deen Meyers asking him to visit school but was understanding if he didnt have time. His teacher told him that he probably wasnt going to write back and that he shouldnt get his hopes up. But after about a week he wrote back saying he would love to come to his school.
I would recommend this book to other kids of all ages, although not for a book report because it is to short and theres not enough information or detail to write a book report. It was defiantly a page turner because I was so excited I could actually finish a whole book in one day! It was easy to focus on the book because it was so simple and there were no confusing events. I connected with the character because recently my dog died and I know how it feels, I also like poetry even though Im not very talented at it. The plot was believable because classes do learn about poetry and peoples dogs do die. I enjoyed this style of writing because it was simple and easy to read.
Overall I thought this book was pretty good and I think other readers should read it too.

I abosiuletly loved this book when I rea dit in I believ the fifth or sixth grade. It's written simply about a boy and his love for his dog. THe style is in verse and even though it doesn't rhyme the words have such deep meaning that it makes you feel for the narrator. Sharon Creech also wrote books like Absolutely Normal Chaos, Wanderer and of coruse the imfamous Walk to Moons. I would defintely reccomend this book to any elemantary schooler.

This story is simple and short. It does have some meaning to it and anyone canm relate to it--especially dog lovers. The book is good and it tells of a relationship between a boy and his dog. The dog is killed but the boy enventually gets over it and he meets Walter Dean Myers, a real-life author and one of my favorites! I thought that was so cool! It's a good, although sad story.

This book will make you love poetry format. It is a fun quick read. I read it in two days. This book is about a kid working on his poetry writing. I think it is somethink most people would like to read.
