Madame Badobedah is an eccentric story perfect for fans of The Magic Treehouse. Mabel lives in an inn and they have a live-in guest that she calls Madame Badobedah. The two spend time searching for treasure on the beach and having magical adventures by using a magical closet in room 32. I love the relationship these two characters have and the dry wit of Madame Badobedah. The illustrations and the lack of TV for entertainment give this book an old-world feel. The adventures they go on emphasize how we are connected to history by the objects left behind and that it fuels our imagination for what used to be. Overall, this charming tale shows a special relationship between an elder and a child and how exploration for the sake of exploration is a worthy goal.
