I must begin by saying that the illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful. They capture Madame Walker in such an excellent and attractive way which is very refreshing for books about Black people in general. It is amazing that the author decided to right about her, as we do not hear much about such an inspiring woman. We need more books like this, about such strong Black role models that often time go unrecognized.
I have three young children and I enjoy reading this story to them. My daughter asks for it every night before bed, school, lunch and nap! My boys love it too!
I recommend that all teachers, not matter what ethnicity, get this book for their classrooms. Madame Walker is a very important part of American history as she was the first self-made female millionaire, (black or white). This book is much needed in our world and children will have a greater sense of pride with reading this book and books like these. If anyone knows of any other works by this author please share because she is simply amazing.
I call this book a treat because it was such a surprise when i saw it online at Boarders. I was very excited to red it and share it with my children. looking forward to many more books like this by this author!
