What I Liked: Fans of Madeline will enjoy this ABC concept board book. The illustrations are delightful and the text is simple so that even the youngest of readers can sit and enjoy it. It gives a word for each letter of the alphabet. This fast pace works very well for Pre-K and younger.
What Left Me Wanting More: Overall the words chosen match very well with the starting letter and are simple. However, most ABC books seem at some point to go away from simple and choose a word that may visually start with the letter of focus but use a more complex word that doesn’t make the basic sound. This book did it once when for the Letter T it used Thunder and a little bit when awake was used for A (depending on dialect). As a reading teacher, this is something I notice when I am using ABC books with beginning readers and am trying to practice with them the sounds the letters make.
Final Verdict: Fans of Madeline will enjoy this beautifully illustrated board book that introduces ABCs.
