The world the author has created was very varied and offered a fresh look at magical creatures. Rina was a great character, she is part of the magical community, but a lot of things are new to her, so we are seeing it for the first time through her eyes. I enjoyed reading about the academy and the trolls were amusing.
The story moved at a fast pace, a semester passes, yet we did not get to see much 'behind the scenes' and some of the character's lacked depth because of this. I wanted to know more about Rina's potential love interest for example.
This is the first book in the series however, and I would read further books in the series as I enjoyed the world portrayed and I want to know what happens to Rina and her brother Ky.
