MAISY LOVES WATER is a cute and simple board book that teaches young readers about water. The book describes what we use water for, where it comes from (rain), and where it goes (streams, rivers, ocean). Alongside the descriptions of water, the book also shows Maisy interacting with it along the way.
What I loved: This is a simple book that introduces important concepts to the youngest of readers. Maisy is a great character with a delightful series, and seeing familiar characters in new books is great for young toddlers. Character recognition allows little ones to expand what they know in a framework they already understand. This new book allows Maisy to teach the basics about water in an approachable and fun way, with easy to understand language and explanations. The art style is typical Maisy, and the bold lines and simple illustrations work so well for the youngest readers. The fold-out page at the end adds to the fun of the story as well.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, some of the font can be really tough to read with a relatively small size and black on dark backgrounds, particularly in lowlight settings like bedtime. The length of each page may be a bit long for the youngest of toddlers, so this may work better for toddlers who are a bit older or young preschoolers.
Final verdict: MAISY LOVES WATER is a fun board book introduction to water with familiar characters and simple phrasing that will work well for toddlers and young preschoolers.
