Mervin the Sloth is just standing there quietly when giant letters drop onto the page: “Mervin the Sloth is about to do the best thing in the world.” But what is the best thing in the world? What is Mervin about to do?

It doesn’t take long for all of Mervin’s exuberant animal friends to barge in with their own ideas. Flying! Digging! Gazelling! Wait, gazelling? Is that even a word?

If only sloths weren’t so slow! Because maybe it’s something even better. But only Amy the red panda sticks around to see it.

This was definitely one of the most original children’s books I’ve had the pleasure of reading! All the kids I read this to really enjoyed it and how different it was compared to other books.

The thing that made this stand apart from other books was how the characters were able to interact with the actual book! In the beginning, the words “Mervin the Sloth is about to do the best thing in the world” filled up the pages… and each of the characters have some sort of interaction with it. A bird flies into it, a fox comments on it, and many more animals put in their thoughts on the words.

It was truly a wonderful experience reading this, simply because it didn’t feel like reading! It felt like you were inside the story, and experiencing something with the characters instead of just reading about their own story.

This was definitely Mervin’s story, as seen from the title, but all the other characters really stole the show. They definitely made this a memorable read, and always kept the story interesting. I could tell the kids were fascinated that a book like this was even possible, and that was probably the best part about reading it :)

Would highly recommend to all!
