Mind Your Manners, Dinosaurs

MIND YOUR MANNERS, DINOSAURS is a cute board book the introduces some basic manners as the dinosaurs come to the table for dinner. The book features cut-outs with each dinosaur also having a flap to lift under which the story is continued. They then travel one by one to the table on the left-hand side of each spread, where they use basic manner words (please, thank you, excuse me, I'm sorry). The end of the book shows their mother reminding them of a few other manners basics.

What I loved: This is an interactive story that helps to give reader some basics about manners, particularly polite words as the dinosaurs use them at the table. The flaps are really nice, underneath each of the dinosaurs on the right side of each spread. They blend in well, but give the reader something fun to do on each page. The cut-outs are really cool too, with each dinosaur moving over to the dinner table as the story progresses. This kind of interactive story will appeal to toddlers.

The illustrations are colorful and cute, focusing on the dinosaurs as they get ready to eat. The bright and cheerful images will definitely appeal to young ones. The text is clear and easy to read throughout with pages that turn fairly quickly, which is great for toddlers.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, it would have been helpful to have more directed learning for the manners instead of the list at the end, to have them appear throughout. Instead, they feel like they could go over little ones' heads. However, with extra prompting and caregiver pointing them out, children can digest them with the book as a starting place for manners.

Final verdict: MIND YOUR MANNERS, DINOSAURS is a cute board book that introduces manners to toddlers with interactive lift-the-flaps and cut-outs.
