Beautiful writing. A strong heroine. A well-done villain. A unique world. Miss Mable’s School For Girls is all of that and more.

Bianca is a teenage girl whose family has suffered through generations of a terrible curse. Her grandmother is dying. Her mother is sick. Her father can’t always be there. So it’s up to Bianca to save her family, and herself. As the third generation since the curse, it will take something much more from her.

The only way to stop it is to attend Miss Mable’s school in hope of convincing Miss Mable to help her. In order to get close to her, Bianca must enter a competition typically reserved for the older and more experience witches. It’s dangerous, but it’s the only way.

This book had a Potteresque feel about parts of it, but that’s not a bad thing. Magical schools have been written about for years and it can be hard to find originality. Well, originality is something this book has in spades. The world building is incredible and I felt myself being drawn deeper with the turn of each page.

I absolutely love Bianca. She’s got spunk and courage. Dangerous competition? No problem. Being an assistant to a scary, powerful woman? Piece of cake. Nothing seems to get to her. You get the feeling that she can handle everything that comes her way.

I was slightly underwhelmed by the competition. It was only a small part of the book and so much more could have been done with it. That’s where Bianca could have showed off her enormous strength. Instead, she just showed a little of her talent. I suspect that she’s much more powerful than we’ve seen yet. Something I’ll find out in the next book.

There are not enough positive words in the English language to describe the beauty in the writing. I can’t remember the last time I read a book with such amazing imagery. The lines roll through your head with such astounding grace. I’m really looking forward to more.
