Misty Mole Gets New Glasses tells you exactly what to expect with the title. What I thought was particularly well done was how relatable Misty is as a character. So many kids suffer from vision issues and don’t realize that they are seeing any differently than anyone else. Her glee at finally being able to see with the help of glasses was a familiar feeling. I like that Misty’s artwork won the competition to show that differences in perspective give us the uniqueness that makes the world so interesting. There is some light teasing when the kids don’t understand why Misty doesn’t see as easily as they can. This book shows how getting glasses and going to the doctor can be a positive experience making it great for young readers who may be nervous. I like that the illustrations have watercolor blobs on the pages showing Misty’s perspective and then clearer illustrations to show what others are seeing to help children understand the difference.
