A #1 New York Times bestseller
“This little mouse may well inspire some big dreams.” —Kirkus Reviews
“A larger-than-life adventure.” —Publishers Weekly

A heartwarming picture book tale of the power of the small from #1 New York Times bestselling author, US Senator, and retired NASA astronaut commander Mark Kelly and renowned illustrator C.F. Payne.

Astronaut Mark Kelly flew with “mice-tronauts” on his first spaceflight aboard space shuttle Endeavour in 2001. Mousetronaut tells the story of a small mouse that wants nothing more than to travel to outer space. The little mouse works as hard as the bigger mice to show readiness for the mission . . . and is chosen for the flight! While in space, the astronauts are busy with their mission when disaster strikes—and only the smallest member of the crew can save the day. With lively illustrations by award-winning artist C. F. Payne, Mousetronaut is a charming tale of perseverance, courage, and the importance of the small!

Mousetronaut is an excellent book with an unmissable message: you are never too small, too young, etc, to be helpful and have purpose! I love that an astronaut wrote it and that he got the idea for his book when he observed the mice on his real space mission. The mouse's name is Meteor - I loved it! Great illustrations! The pull-out pages that include the solar system helped give readers a visual for the concept of the size of space. Facts in the back teach kids how animals were used in space. Mousetronaut would be an excellent read-aloud for grades 1-5 elementary students. It would be a great addition to a science section of the class and open up discussion about the space program, what astronauts achieve, and the various ways exploration benefits everyone.
