What worked: This is a fun paranormal twist on historical figures set in the Wild West of 1876. I loved the other two books in the 'Lady Janies' series. The latest one in this series doesn't disappoint!

Readers follow Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, Will Bill Hickok, and Frank Butler during their famous Wild Bill's Wild West tour. Only there's a paranormal element in this story. Seems the troupe is a cover for hunting garous-werewolves. An encounter of werewolves has the troupe searching for the Alpha. After one of them is bitten, she goes to Deadwood where there is a promised cure. Only what they find there is more trouble and of course more gun slinging action. Add romance, a talking dog, and suspense. Plus, hilarious dialogue with dead-pan humor throughout.

There's lots of twists and turns, including Annie confronting her hatred of werewolves; Jane's hint at a love interest(I love how the authors fleshed her character out and showed her softness and goodness); and even the discrimination against werewolves.

Backstory of Annie and Jane is woven throughout and gives readers glimpses of their past and what lead them to be what they would become. I admit, I Googled each of the characters to find out their 'real' stories. Got to love when a novel is so engaging that you want to know more!

This is rollicking, hilarious romp through the Wild West of 1876 with characters that are endearing and funny. Totally recommend!
