Narwhal Unicorn of the Arctic takes you on the journey of what life looks like throughout the year as a narwhal. Join along with this narwhal as he jousts with others, floats with his pod, learns about echolocation to find food, and more.

What I Liked: This is a book that I started reading and wanted to get through immediately only so I could re-read it again. The instant that I opened the book the images stood out to me as the colors mix well together and are calming. I love that the images go well with the words and don’t bury anything with their colors.

This book is told in a unique writing style for a non-fiction book as it is written in verse. This beautiful writing style lets you feel as if you are listening to someone tell you about this creature as you read. The writing style lends itself to being read aloud and is one that I would enjoy listening to countless times. Each time I picked up this book there was a new fact that stood out to me in the book that I didn’t find in previous readings.

I appreciate that this book takes you throughout the whole year with this narwhal so you get to see what different seasons look like for him. I also appreciate that the story is written in the second person therefore it's as if who you are reading the book to is the narwhal and is along for this ride. This stood out to me since it's different from the books I have read before, especially within the non-fiction genre and it was a nice change.

Final Verdict: Narwhal Unicorn of the Arctic is a great non-fiction book to read to young children who are interested in sea creatures. This is a great way to learn a lot of information about this creature in an interesting way. Adults will enjoy the beautiful words that are paired with beautiful images.
