In No More Señora Mimi, Ana is excited that her grandmother is coming to live with her and her mother. Ana is sure her grandma will let her play instead of rushing her off to school, as Senora Mimi does. With her grandmother there, Ana won’t even need a babysitter anymore. But Ana has some great times with Senora Mimi and isn’t sure if she is ready to say goodbye to her.
What I Liked: I was curious about this book from the title, and I am glad that I got the chance to read it. I love Ana’s relationship with her babysitter and the babysitter’s family. I am excited to share this book with children who are in similar situations as Ana. I think it’s important to showcase the relationships that children can develop with a sitter and how important that person becomes to their everyday routine.
I enjoyed the art style in this book and how there is no line art so everything tends to blend in with each other. I appreciate how the background is not accented so that the characters in the book stand out more and you can see who the focus should be on. I also love how the illustrator put texture into each of the character's hair and how they each had different hairstyles.
It warmed my heart when we learned that Senora Mimi is Ana’s neighbor and they will continue to see each other. I recall having my grandmother take care of me as a child but also having neighbors who cared for our family too.
Final Verdict: No More Senora Mimi is a great book for children who may be struggling with a relationship change. Children will get to see that just because someone doesn’t have the same role in their lives, it doesn’t mean that they can’t stay connected and maintain that relationship.
