In No Thanks, Said Turkey, Turkey’s friends have invited him to celebrate with them but he has politely declined. The other animals are interested in what Turkey is up to that day and are about to find out.

What I Liked: As Thanksgiving approaches I was looking for books to share with the children in my life and this one’s cover attracted my attention. I loved that Turkey kept declining everyone’s invitation to join them and he didn’t provide anyone with a reason. I like that the animals didn’t pry as he continued to decline their invitation politely but instead were concerned about what was keeping him so busy. I loved the ending as they are invited to join instead of imposing themselves onto someone else’s meal.

I love the writing style in this book as it is told in verse. The tone in the book makes it easy to read out loud to a younger audience and makes it sound like a song you are reading. The art style also adds to the writing style as it holds younger audiences' attention. Each of the animals has a distinct yet recognizable look to them. I also like how the background gives you a setting but doesn’t distract from the words or main images.

Final Verdict: No Thanks, Said Turkey is a fun book to introduce Thanksgiving to children just be warned they may feel bad eating turkey after. This book is a great introduction to Thanksgiving and how this a holiday to gather with friends and family to share a meal.
