The first book of His Dark Materials is set in Lyra's world, a world that is similar to our old fashioned England, but completely different. A world with talking polar bears and daemons. Daemons are part of your soul that takes the form of an animal that represents your personality.

This magical story starts off with Lyra in her beloved university. It tells the story of her adventures that follows the trail of a mysterious substance called Dust. She travels the ice and sails the world, is kidnapped and tested on, all which test her skills. Lyra is a strong character which makes her a spectacular heroine.

With a lovely story, this book really makes you think. I defiantly recommend it.

I really liked the book Northern Lights. It was original and supported females and their independence.

There is romance (although it doesn't end very well), and an element of mystery as she has been given the clues to solve a murder which looked like a death.

It is interesting and a well-written book and I think that many people will enjoy reading it although I did not find the ending very satisfying.

This is the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. This is a very far fetched fantasy book but still manages to be exceptionally good. magic and fantasy is tied into reality to make it more believable. it is astonishingly gripping and convincing in ways that are unbelievable and though it is a tricky read it is a great one.

A fantastic trilogy. Each book goes through multiple dimensions, which becomes kind of confusing... This book is a complicated maze of twists and turns, making it anybodies guess of what might happen next. A must read for avid readers (if you know what avid means, get this book!)!
