I don't know WHY no one told me about this book sooner?! I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge mythology fan HOWEVER, I'm SO VERY GLAD I read this book!
It's got action, adventure, humor and romance. I mean, I barely made it to page 3 before I was laughing out loud, on a plane bound for Florida no less. This earned me several angry glares probably because the pilot had just announced that one of the air ducts was falling apart. I guess the other passengers thought I found the idea of all of us swimming with the fishes, hilarious. I didn't by the way, I was just choosing to look at the bright side, you know, maybe if we had gone on an unexpected swimming adventure we might've met Galen for reals. Maybe. *shrugs*
What I liked: Being able to see the story unfold from both Galen and Emma's POV's especially since they're so different was a nice touch. Emma was a fabulous MC! She's snarky, strong-willed and very familiar with all things awkward. (*fist bumps* her) Galen is a nice blend of steam and swoon without going overboard and his desire to do what's in the best interest of his kind is admirable even if I did want shake the squid brain every now and then.
I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters of Chloe, Rayna and Toraf which doesn't always happen. And the fact that the romance wasn't love at first manfish was a plus.
What left me wanting more: Can you ever really have enough of Galen Forza? I mean, really?
Final verdict: Ohmysweetgoodness that was AMAZEFISH! :D
Is it May yet? Because that's an awful long time to have to wait for "Of Triton"!

I first picked up this book after reading a wonderful review on Marissa Meyer's blog. Since I loves Meyer's Cinder, I thought I would give it shot. I am not usually big on YA romance but this one took me by surprise. The characters are entertaining and the humor moves the book a long. I finished this book in one day. A light blend of Greek mythological themes, mystery, and romance.
Emma is strong but perfect. She tends to flip flop between damsel in distress and stealthy fighter. She has her flaws, times when she acts stubborn and misjudged things. But this is what I like about her. Galen is a strong male lead and at times a little too strong and overbearing. But throughout the course of the book the reason for this becomes clear. He can be a character to love to hate and sometimes hate to love. He is fallible and has a lots of challenges to face. Can he give up what he wants most in life, sacrifice everything for the survival of his family?
Of Poseidon makes a great summer beach read. It is light and entertaining of the surface with a little mystery and intrigue below the waters. I love that the story is told from two different points of view and it was smooth transitioning between the two. A heads up- this story has a cliffhanger ending and it does leave you wanting to read the next book. Can't wait for the sequel and I know many of my female students would say the same.

Emma and her friend Chloe are vacationing at the seashore. Right after literally running into the handsome Galen, Emma's friend is killed by a shark. Galen and Emma tried to save her, and it turns out that Emma can talk to the shark, although it's too late to save Chloe. Galen has come searching for Emma at the behest of Dr. Milligan, a human whom Galen saved and who saw Emma at the Gulfarium he runs. Suspecting that she is also a Syrena (basically a mermaid), Dr. Milligan has Galen hunt her down. Galen's sister Rayna and his human assistant Rachel (who is pretending to be his mother) take up residence in Emma's community, get to know her, and try to figure out whether she is or isn't "of Poseidon".
Good Points
Our language arts teacher and a fellow blogger, told his students about the book Ripple, and they all wanted to read it, so mermaids hold some fascination. This is an interesting take on the legend, told from both Galen's and Emma's perspective, and a good alternative to other paranormal romances.

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks was quite an enchanting read. What a fresh new take on mermaids and a delightful cast of characters to go along with it!
Of Posiedon had a bit of a shaky start for me. The plot was interesting, but I wasn't completely hooked. This shortly changed, and I didn't want to put Of Poseidon by Anna Banks down for a moment. I loved discovering Anna Banks' take on mermaid mythology and how that influenced what would happen. I also pictured the story going a much different way, so when it was completely different, I loved it.
The story is told in alternating perspectives which I wasn't expecting, and it made me super excited when I found this out. It was fun to see the story told from both Galen and Emma's eyes.
I LOVED the characters of Of Poseidon. They were all just wonderful, and I cannot wait to see more of them in book 2. Rayna was too funny - she had so much spunk. I am super curious to see more of Toraf, as he was super fun and just an all around nice guy. Rachel was absolutely hilarious and I'm intrigued to find out more about her.
The ending was quite intense. I guessed part of the ending very early on in the book, but the other part, I never saw it coming! And basically now I need book 2 like ASAP because I need to know what is going to happen next.
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks really was a great read. It was everything I was looking for, and overall a wonderful debut. I am very curious to see what is next for Anna Banks.
