Click your heels three times and say, “There’s no place like Bloomies!”

Katie Chandler’s life is pure magic–literally. As an executive assistant at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., she’s seen more than her share of fantastical occurrences. A mere Manhattan mortal, Katie is no wizard, but she’s a wiz at exposing “hokum” pocus, cloaked lies, and deceptive enchantments. And she’s fallen under the all-too-human spell of attraction to Owen, a hunky wizard and coworker. Owen, however, is preoccupied. Someone has broken into his office and disrupted top-secret files, and it reeks of an inside job. CEO Merlin (yes, the Merlin) and taps Katie and her special ability to uncover the magical mole.

Keeping her feelings in check while sleuthing alongside Owen, Katie is shocked to discover that her immunity to magic is waning, putting her in grave danger. Soon she’s surrendering to the charms and enchantments of everyone and everything around her, including a killer pair of red stilettos. Katie must now conjure up her natural instincts to get to the bottom of the break-in, regain her power, and win the wizard of her dreams.

This book is technically not a young adult book, but it certainly has crossover appeal for teen girls. Think of it as chick lit meets Bewitched (or, if Bewitched is too old school for you, think Sabrina the Teenage Witch).

Katie Chandler is a completely non-magical person but shes also immune to it. That makes her perfect for her job at Magic, Spells and Illusions, Inc. She can see right through enchantments that pull the wool over other peoples eyes.

Shes also got a serious crush on Owen, a quiet but hunky wizard. When some kind of intrigue is going on at the office, Merlin (yep, that Merlin) sends Katie to investigate. But when shes all of a sudden finding herself being affected by spells that never touched her before, whats a girl to do? Can she win over Owen and keep herself (and everyone else) safe? Is her immunity permanently gone?

This is a fun series with a plucky heroine. Owen sounds like a perfect guy (a little shy, but hey, we like em that way). Katie is believable and easy to root for. Romance fans and fantasy fans will find lots to like and both teens and adults will enjoy this one.

I personally enjoyed Once Upon Stilettos quite a bit because it is such an original plot and overly quite enjoyable. The characters are real, the danger feels malicious, and the ending is to die for.

The one part that I enjoyed the most was definitely the romance: I am a true romantic and will never change. Here, it was a budding relationship, unknown on both parts, and left me breathless. The plot was tangible and interesting, and the magical talk was most definitely delicious.

I am definitely looking forward to the next book :)

Katie Chandler, the assisstant at MSI, lives an unordinary life. She is one of the few employees at Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc who can see magical illusions, spells, enchantments and more. Yet she doesn't have one magical bone in her body.

As the newly promoted assisstant to Merlin, she is given some rather special jobs. When someone breaks into wizard Owen Palmer's office, she is sent to investigate the crime. When it is determined that someone in the office is sabotaging the company, it's up to Katie to find a clever way to find the culprit before they can get to her first.

I'm a fan of chick-lit, so I was immediately attracted to the title and cover of the book. As soon as I started to read this book, I could not put it down. I loved the twist with the magical elements. It definately added a little something different. I really liked the main character, Katie, as well. I will try to find the prequel to Once Upon Stilettos as soon as I can. This is a great summer read!
