When Pauline’s employer realizes that there may have been an embezzler in their midst, Pauline a recent college ’84 Criminal Justice grad dreams of solving her first mystery. Mr. Mead, Pauline’s boss at the local San Xavier Post Office teams Pauline up with Matthew Grayson, a building inspector and former San Francisco police detective, 13 years her senior. Perplexed and bewildered Pauline Schmidt hopes that her new assignment will lead to a dream job on her local San Xavier police force and maybe a romance with Matt along the way.

While handsome Matt pretends to be Pauline’s new love interest, Matt tows Pauline around the Arizona city, where they discover a dead body! Now they are involved in a murder investigation! Perilous perplexities of humorous proportions and laughable hijinks follow the duo around the city at every turn.

Will Pauline learn to accept her life, if it doesn’t always work out as planned, or will she snag her coveted job on the police force? Will Matt become Pauline’s first real boyfriend or will Pauline realize she doesn’t need to be his arm candy? And of course will Matt and Pauline solve San Xavier’s newest mystery? Join the duo for their search for answers to life’s perplexing issues while they confront their anxieties, hopes, and plans for the future in LS Wagen’s, Pauline’s Perils of Perplexity.

Fun Romp
By Linda Strong on August 13, 2015
Format: Amazon Paperback Verified Purchase

Meet Pauline .... she's 24, a recent graduate of Arizona State University. She's bright, bubbly, and just waiting for her chance to be Chief of Police .. somewhere. Having no experience in that area, however, she has chosen to work for the Post Office, even though she really hates the blue uniform.

This is a fun romp, especially when there is a theft at the Post Office and her boss hires a former police detective to work undercover along with Pauline. To her, this is like a new job interview and she might get a new boyfriend at the same time.

I chuckled a lot through this book. Pauline is such a kook but in a very endearing way. She's got a wicked sense of humor that is infectious if nothing else.

The book was enjoyable, refreshing, especially as this is not my normal kind of read.

Many thanks to the author who supplied this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

3.5 stars Much better than a 3, but a little less than 4

Plucky Pauline Gets Her Chance
By CeeDee on April 14, 2015
Format: Amazon Paperback Verified Purchase

A very promising first novel for teens and young adults. With understanding and humor, L.S. Wagen tells about Pauline, a recent college graduate, who wants a real career and possibly a boyfriend as well. Plucky Pauline helps solve a crime and in the process learns something about herself as well.
Good Points
