Pine the porcupine and Boof the bear became friends in the first book of this series, PINE & BOOF: THE LUCKY LEAF by author and illustrator Ross Burach, and they're back for more fun and adventure in PINE & BOOF BLAST OFF.
BLAST OFF begins with the friends spending a day collecting rocks when Boof is hit in the head with an unidentified object. Fortunately, Pine is quite the scientist, and he uses his powers of observation to determine that the item that hit Boof's noggin is, in fact, an egg from outer space. Obviously.
The rest of the story follows Pine and Boof's efforts to build a rocket, train for the journey, and set off to return the space egg to its home. The illustrations are fun, and Pine and Boof are drawn simply, but the story can easily be tracked through the pictures alone.
BLAST OFF is a celebration of friendship, imagination, and adventure, and Pine and Boof are charming characters who provide plenty of laughs as they navigate to outer space to find the egg's space nest.
I very much enjoyed this new tale about Pine and Boof, and I look forward to many more. My thanks to the publisher and YA Books Central for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
