Poppy’s Family Patterns is a unique read that incorporates themes of family connection while teaching about patterns. Poppy’s favorite toy is a bunny and it saddens her when the dress is ripped on the bunny. Her mom saves the day with her fabric box to craft a new dress for Poppy and her bunny. Through this experience, Poppy learns about stripes, polka dots, and chevron among other patterns; plus, the family and memories attached to the scraps of cloth. The family links appealed to my sentimental soul and I liked the introduction of common fabric patterns for young readers. The illustrations are rich in color and details. The simple sentences make it easy for young readers to follow along and improve their vocabulary for patterns.
