I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels a little concerned when they pick up the second book in a trilogy. We know the first book builds the world and raises the stakes, and the third books solves the problems (or doesn't) and puts the story to rest. But the second book? It only develops the plot some more, basically a prequel for the third.Sometimes, after I read a second book in a trilogy, I understand why it was necessary to be there - yet i still think it could have been more exciting, more could have happened. But this was not one of those times. This was a book that as I'm reading it, i think "wow, this was even better than the first book, if that's possible." So if you love the first book but afraid of being disappointed with the second, don't be. You won't be disappointed. This is one of the best trilogies, and it has an amazing middle book. The plot continues where it last left us, and immediately whisks us into another adventure, brings back old characters, introduces new ones, and raises stakes and has action scenes that only Marie Lu can write so amazingly.
I love the direction the plot goes in, everything they discover and everyone they meet. It's just great, and I can't wait to dive into the third book and see what it has in store for me. The whole book is cliffhanger after cliffhanger. We do get some answers in this book, answers that I LOVE by the way, yet there's still enough mystery to set up the third book. Readers will be satisfied and you should pick it up NOW.
