Laurie Halse Anderson is one of my favorite authors. And she did it again with this amazing book, Prom. It's kind of different from her previous books, but I loved it all the same. It's about a "normal" high school senior, Ashley. She doesn't really want to go to college, has tons of detentions and missed classes, a low-life boyfriend, and a family that's a little wierd. She's just waiting for graduation and moving out. But then the Math teach steals all the prom money. Nat, Ashley's best friend, lives for the prom and needs Ashley's help to throw prom at school at the last minute. Ashley isn't sure about this. She doesn't even want to go to prom. But she finds out that being on this prom committee was one of the best things that has happend to her, despite some obstacles and a mother who is soon to go into labor. This book keeps you laughing and interesting. The characters are so realistic, you can imagine them as your own. I loved this book for its quirky characters and an informal plotline that just keep you reading. A must read book.
