REALLY BIRD, REALLY LUCKY is a fun new Really Bird adventure where he has found a red box. Really Bird and his friends explore and decide how to play with this exciting new box, coming up with some fun and creative ideas for a great day spent playing together.
What I loved: This is an overall simple story told through a graphic novel that will work well for early independent readers. The plot is straight-forward and the use of text is minimal to tell the story. Readers gaining independence will appreciate the simplicity of the read as well as the colorful panels and images that help to tell the story. This new Really Bird adventure is sure to inspire creativity as children think about what they would like to use a box for and all the ways they could imagine it.
The simple themes around friendship and imaginative play are great for young readers. With large text and easily attributable text boxes, this is one that they can follow along easily. Discussion questions in the back add to the learning process with a caregiver, and encourage thinking more deeply about the story.
Final verdict: REALLY BIRD, REALLY LUCKY is an engaging graphic novel that will work well for early independent readers.
