It is rare that I can find a book that captures my imagination as Redwall did. I read it first in the 4th grade, and loved every wonderful page of it. I then proceeded to read the entire rest of the series by Brian Jacques, but nothing could quite compare to this amazing read. It had everything I wanted: action, detail, riddles, humor, a brave hero, and a malevolant villian. But even more than that was the theme of change, as Redwall is plunged from peace-haven to war-zone, and as Matthias matures, from bumbling novice to mature hero.
I have read Redwall more than 15 times and am still not tired of it. Every time I read it, I see something new, some exciting foreshadow I hadn't noticed before. I can't wait to pick it up again to see what new twist it holds for me now.
