RICHARD SCARRY'S CARS AND TRUCKS SOUND BOOK is a fun, interactive board book that follows Officer Flossy as she tries to catch Dingo Dog. Along the way, they run into lots of mischief with a big car pileup and other mishaps. Each page shows which buttons to press for sound effects to go along with the text.

What I loved: This was a cute and fun story, and the interactive sound buttons were great. A particular favorite in our house was the sound of the pumpkin car that Officer Flossy passes. The story is easy to follow and there's a lot going on in each scene for children to visually explore. The pages include images of the buttons to press, which allows young readers to match to the top and press them on their own. The animals and vehicles are adorably drawn, and everything works out well in the end, as Officer Flossy catches Dingo Dog.

The sounds have an on-off switch on the back that is much appreciated, and the board book pages make the book quite sturdy. The text is black on white pages, so although it is small, it is legible when read aloud. Due to length and content, this will work well for toddlers and preschoolers.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the sounds are very loud and there is not a volume control. Some of the sounds are a bit intense for little ones due to the lack of volume options.

Final verdict: RICHARD SCARRY'S CARS AND TRUCKS SOUND BOOK is a cute, interactive story of a vehicle chase and mishaps around a busy town. The sounds in particular make for an enjoyable story-telling experience for young readers.
